Welcome to Dementia Jersey’s Big Brain Challenge!
The challenge is to navigate your way to all 25 locations on the island to have a chance to win an iPad donated by Jersey Telecom.
Le Quesne’s Garden Centre.
Each location contains some information about improving your brain health, and a clue to the next location. As you read the information about improving your brain health, you will notice that there is a letter in purple. Make a record of each purple letter at each site so that once you have visited them all you will be able to make a phrase about brain health. You can then submit the phrase via our website, giving you a chance to win an iPad.
That gut feeling.
Gut bacteria affect brain health, so changing your gut bacteria can improve brain health. In a healthy gut, ‘good bacteria’ can keep illness at bay and ‘bad bacteria’ in check, but if something disturbs this balance, the body can become vulnerable to disease. Some studies have suggested that gut bacteria may even act as a ‘second brain’ and may be responsible for – or at least play a part in – the development of age-related diseases affecting the brain such as Alzheimer’s, the most common form of dementia. Not only that, but research increasingly shows that a poor balance of gut bacteria can directly lead to issues such as depression, and anxiety. Keep the gut in check by increasing your intake of ‘good bacteria’. Enjoy probiotic rich foods such as kefir, yogurt and kimchi which are all rich in Lactobacillus, vitamins and minerals.
In Five Oaks this retail outlet is not only for those with pharmaceutical needs.
