Dementia Information Programme (DIP) for Family Carers

Dementia Jersey now offer a practical training programme for family carers called the “Dementia Information Programme” (DIP). This free interactive programme is designed to provide useful information, advice, and tips on a range of subjects to help family carers who are supporting or caring for a friend or family member with dementia at home.

The training was designed following requests from family carers to have some scenario-based training on how to care for someone with dementia. DIP is classroom based but features different scenarios of common challenges and is limited to small groups of 15 people. It consists of four two hour sessions, held once a week for four weeks. Attendees will have the option to choose between a morning or evening programme, which means there is capacity for two groups. The programme will be repeated three times per year, with each cohort capped at 14 attendees to ensure inclusivity and personalised attention.

Participants will receive folders at the start of the program to keep handouts and notes, creating a valuable reference resource to use after the sessions are complete. Course materials will also be available online.

Dementia Jersey’s Lead Dementia Advisor, Wendy Munn, will have overall responsibility for the delivery of the programme, with other staff members delivering specific topics, bringing a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the course.

You can pick to attend our morning or evening session.
Please note you will need to attend the same session times each week.

“DIP is super and very informative. It’s a valuable course for anyone who is caring for someone with dementia. It really helped me gain a better understanding of dementia. Talking to others and the interactive sessions really helped. I’ve already recommended it to others.”

“This course helped me understand dementia better. I had no idea vision and loss of feeling in the hands can be part of dementia.”
