Dementia Jersey Big Brain Challenge Message

That gut feeling.

Gut bacteria affect brain health, so changing your gut bacteria canimprove brain health. In a healthy gut, ‘good bacteria’ can keep illness at bay and ‘bad bacteria’ in check, but if something disturbs this balance, the body can become vulnerable to disease. Some studies have suggested that gut bacteria may even act as a ‘second brain’ and may be responsible for – or at least play a part in – the development of age-related diseases affecting the brain such as Alzheimer’s, the most common form of dementia. Not only that, but research increasingly shows that a poor balance of gut bacteria can directly lead to issues such as depression, and anxiety. Keep the gut in check by increasing your intake of ‘good bacteria’. Enjoy probiotic rich foods such as kefir, yogurt and kimchi which are all rich in Lactobacillus, vitamins and minerals.
