I come from San Antonio, a small village on the outskirts of Funchal, the capital of Madeira. In 1967, I met my wife, Agnes (aka Jackie) who was Scottish, whilst I was working at the Pomme D’Or Hotel. We enjoyed a long and happy marriage and had two daughters.
I worked for the Seymour Hotel Group for much of my working life. I was also one of the founding members of the Portuguese Club of Jersey and was the club’s secretary for a period of over 20 years.
Since my diagnosis, most mornings, I still have an early start and meet my friends for a coffee and chat. I also love doing puzzles, and watching quiz shows and sports on television. I am a big Wimbledon fan and enjoy horse racing, too. I also love reading.
I am a sea swimmer and still get in the water when the weather is good – although nowadays, I swim much closer to the shore.
