What is MiCode and how does it work?

TV doctor Dr Dawn Harper explains how MiCode works, why it matters, and how it can help in situations where someone is unable to communicate clearly in an emergency.

A simple solution for critical moments.

MiCode is designed to support people in situations where they may become confused, disoriented, unwell, or unable to communicate clearly. Each pack includes a unique QR code that can be carried on a keyring, in a wallet, or on a phone. If scanned, it allows someone to quickly access a name and emergency contact number, helping ensure the right person can be contacted without delay. Additional medical information can then be accessed securely using a PIN, either shared by the emergency contact or accessed directly by emergency services when needed.

Supporting islanders with practical solutions.

Dementia Jersey introduced MiCode to the island as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting people living with dementia and those who care for them. While MiCode can support a wide range of people and situations, it can be especially valuable for individuals who may be more vulnerable in moments of confusion or distress, while also giving families greater peace of mind. This initiative forms part of a project supported through a grant from the Impact Jersey ‘CareTech Challenge’ Programme, funded by the Government of Jersey and delivered by Digital Jersey.

Watch the full conversation with Dr Dawn Harper

During her visit to Jersey, Dr Dawn Harper sat down with Claudine Snape, CEO of Dementia Jersey, for an open and insightful conversation around dementia, communication challenges, family experiences, and why practical tools like MiCode can make a meaningful difference.
